Optoma HD20 Projector

Optoma HD20 Projector comes with easy to read manuals and a cd. Watching blu-rays on this thing is beautiful. The 1080P really shows on the smoothness of images and the colors are breathtaking and the blacks are deeper than what most people say they are as long as you adjust the settings.

The settings right out of the box aren't great so definitely adjust them. HDTV looks amazing too. The remote lights up bright. Even with ambient light in the room, the image comes through greatly.

    "Optima HD20"By John J. Davidson

I Replaced an Infocus SP4805 that had severed me well for many years. The 4805 was in need of a bulb so this was all the more reason to upgrade. I wanted to up grade to a full 1080p projector for less than a thousand dollars. Not a lot of choice at this price point but I did my research and the Optima HD20 seemed like the clear choice. As many have noted, out of the box the colors will need some adjustment. However, Optima provides plenty of controls that are not complicated to do this. I use the THX optimizer found on many DVDs to do this and it was very simple. The color saturation is very good and balanced once you have done some tweaking. The picture is much brighter than the 4805 and this is allowing me to get better viewing with more ambient light. Overall I am very pleased especially when I consider the cost was $500 less than the Infocus projector I replaced. Anyone looking for a cheap upgrade into 1080p projectors will not be disappointed. "Can't be beat for price" By Vauktu

    Short review:
Tomorrow I will be returning my $2,200 63" Plasma TV without a single regret and this projector will take it's place. And no, the TV was not defective.

    Long review:
For the past couple of months I have been what people would call an avid movie-goer seeking to get a theater experience in my very own home. I've done my research and have and eye for perfection. With a recent (and rather expensive) purchase of some speakers, a Blu-ray player, and a Plasma TV, I thought I had it all - until I saw the Optoma HD20 home theater projector.

I ordered this projector and it had arrived at my house 2 days later in perfect condition. I took it out of the box, set it up, turned off the lights, and turned it on ... wow. Even on a white dry painted wall (the projection screen had not arrived in the mail yet), the image and color was amazing.

With the arrival of the a 150 inch projection screen at my house, I was quick to call some people and have them set it up. After about thirty minutes, the screen was finally ready to be used and so was the Optoma HD20 home theater projector.

I turned off the lights, inserted the 'Avatar' Blu-ray in my PS3, and then let the projector do it's thing. While I sat down on the couch and waited for the projector to power up, I had the worrying thought the projector would lose all it's image and color quality with it being 18 feet back and projecting onto a 150 inch screen. To my amazement, that was not the case. As soon as an image began to appear on the screen, I couldn't help but chuckle and put the biggest smile on my face.

The quality of the image and color had not deteriorated in the least. This projector can produce fantastic colors, almost as good as any given Plasma TV.

All in all, this projector has FAR exceeded my expectations. If you are looking for a projector under $1,000, then this is for you.

EDIT (5/15/10): This review was written after viewing a couple movies in 480p (on accident!), which is far below the quality of 1080p. After managing to get the 1080p setting I was looking for, I was, again, in absolute awe of this projector. The quality of the image has FAR surpassed the quality of my previous 63" Plasma TV. I highly recommend this projector over any TV, even if you don't have a projection screen.
